‘Jenny’s House of Joy’ storms into Shelburne with a bang!

May 1, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Raunchy, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining is the only way to describe ‘Jenny’s House of Joy’ presented by The Grace Tipling Stage Company in Shelburne.

The colourful costumes will take your breath away as this amusing tongue-in-cheek comedy unveils itself. Set in the wild west, in 1870’s Kansas, the story follows ‘working girls’ in a brothel over a period of several months.

Madame Jenny (Jeanette Massicote) is a bubbly character who aims to protect her cast of vulnerable, charismatic, and young girls as they learn about life and themselves – beyond the walls of this western ‘household’. The way she takes them under her wing makes the audience laugh continuously with her antics. Every actress plays their part with heart and soul, portraying their characters totally different personalities professionally (pardon the pun).

Frances (Melina Prentice) the experienced mother hen, who drinks from dawn till dusk, sees the world for what it really is. The young naïve Anita (Kathleen Peeters) who foolishly thinks this is the best life in the world, and Natalie (Amber Tabor) the prim and proper city girl that believes there is no evil in any man, and how can we forget the jealous, crazy, gun wielding Clara Casey (Debbie Tait).

Laughter was on the menu for this raunchy comedy that had the audience mesmerized and on the edge of their seats – excited to see what was going to happen next.

Director Jean Miller bravely put this show together and can be satisfied with the hours she happily puts in at the Grace Tipling. Her hard work has resulted in a successful show that even Norm Foster can be proud of.

The people of the Town of Shelburne should be proud that there are so many talented people willing to give their own time and effort to put together these entertaining productions. Jenny’s House of Joy is a show not to be missed!

The remaining shows at Grace Tipling Hall take place on Friday May 2nd and Saturday May 3rd at 8 p.m.
