The new Wool & Silk Co. open for business

October 15, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Shelburne has an interesting history. When Woolly’s Yarn Shop closed on Shelburne’s Main St., knitters and those who love crochet were crushed. In order to find a great yarn shop with the variety of fabulous yarns available right here in Shelburne, one would have to travel to another a major City.
Fortunately, new owner of The Wool & Silk Co., Diane Griffith, saved the day for yarn enthusiasts taking over the location of Woolly’s Yarns. A new look is not the only thing Griffith offers her customers, but with a homey, comfortable environment comes the variety of quality fine yarns shoppers are accustomed to as well as a variety of new products.
Seamlessly melding the old with the new, even the name of the new business is kismet with historical value as some might remember back in the day, the business was once the location of the local Shelburne Bakery, which became Silks Bakery, eventually becoming Woolly’s Yarn Shop. In fact, the shelving for the bakery now houses yarn.
“Completely a stroke of luck. I had completely forgotten about the previous names, so it turned out well,” commented Griffith, a former Veterinary Technician who also finds time to have two other businesses in Livestock Auctioning and Livestock Transporting. Griffith is a lifetime knitter and saw the investment into the wool shop as a great business opportunity.
“As new owner, the idea is just to have something to enjoy. We’ll have ‘sit and knits’ and eventually lessons including Saturday morning junior knitting lessons which can involve anyone under 18 who wants to learn to knit. This will give people the chance to get together with friends, ”explained Griffith adding, “ And, as far as I know I am only the second business location to carry Shirley Brian Products and these make wonderful gifts.”
At The Wool And Silk Co.’s grand opening on Friday, October 10th, Shelburne Mayor Ed Crewson, welcomed Griffith to the Shelburne community during the ribbon cutting ceremony commenting with great pride, “Thank you for investing in our town. It’s great to see a shop like this here and it’s further encouragement to other businesses to come to Shelburne. Shelburne is where it’s at!”
Honoring October as Breast Cancer Month, Griffith is offering specials she welcomes the community to check out. In keeping with her store’s catch phrase, “where beautiful things begin”, Griffith will have yarn officianodo’s in complete agreement with just one foot in the door.
